1 Hotel Seattle’s luxury hotel renovation designed by Seattle hotel architects AXIS Architecture + Design featured by NEWH

Recently, NEWH Seattle Chapter hosted its first BrandED event of the year at 1 Hotel Seattle. The event, which brought together the Pacific Northwest’s hospitality design community, activated an immersive, case study-driven discussion centered on the luxury hotel’s recent conversion and renovation. Hosted across a number of spaces within the hotel, the program created a unique forum to examine the design and development process in situ, connecting concept to execution within a fully realized guest environment.

Representing AXIS, Principal Architect Rory Carroll joined Christian Schulz of Studio Collective and Dane Patunoff of KHP Capital Partners for a panel discussion exploring the collaborative relationship between architecture and interior design. The conversation focused on aligning spatial planning, material strategies, and brand positioning to deliver a cohesive, sustainability-driven hospitality experience, all while navigating the inherent constraints and opportunities of a complex hotel renovation.

The event’s program concluded with a guided tour of the property, offering attendees a firsthand look at how design intent was translated into built form, and underscoring the value of interdisciplinary collaboration in shaping high-performing, experience-driven hotel environments.

AXIS is proud to announce that our Powell Street multi-family residential mixed-use project in the heart of San Francisco’s Chinatown has gained approval from the city. Delivering profoundly needed workforce housing and affordable residential units as part of an infill mixed-use development, the project’s approval was made possible by the recently enacted California Senate Bill 423 – legislation that streamlines the approval of multi-family residential housing in response to California’s housing shortage and affordability crisis.

Designed by AXIS’ San Francisco studio, the project will deliver 26 residential units over six stories, and includes over 2,000 square feet of ground floor commercial space. Expertly activating California’s State Density Bonus, AXIS’ design includes three rent restricted affordable housing units. Capping the development, a sixth-floor rooftop communal amenity deck will offer views of North Beach and Fisherman’s Wharf, as well as the surrounding Telegraph and Russian Hill neighborhoods.

As we featured earlier this month in the first edition of our Praxis newsletter for 2025, we’re proud to take a moment to celebrate all we accomplished in 2024. Our sincere thanks to all of our clients and industry partners for making 2024 such a success.

AXIS/GFA is extremely proud to announce an exciting new chapter in our history. Effective today, AXIS/GFA is now AXIS Architecture + Design.

To celebrate our new name, we’re equally excited to introduce our new logo, a new corporate identity, and a new company website.

As our clients and industry partners will recognize, AXIS/GFA has enjoyed notable growth along the West Coast, including the addition of offices in Los Angeles and Seattle in recent years. Our adoption of a new and refined name further cements that growth, and creates a foundation for the company’s continued expansion in the future.

Although our new name and rebrand mean big things for our team, for our clients and industry partners your experience working with us will remain unchanged; our mission to be your trusted architectural design partner committed to your project’s success is now even stronger, and the teams you’ve come to love and rely on remain the same.

Our new corporate identity reflects AXIS’ longstanding company Vision

As part of our rebrand, we’re proud to introduce a new logo that captures the commitment we make in our Vision Statement: “Shape the best in humans to shape the best human experiences.”

“Reflecting inwards to reflect outwards” is a mindset that is intended to guide the team in the years to come. By looking inwards, and nurturing the exceptional talent and creativity on our team, AXIS is empowered to reflect that passion outwards by designing inspiring spaces and communities on our clients’ behalves. Embodying that notion of reflection, AXIS’ new logo features mirrored chevrons overlapping at its crux, elegantly capturing the impact inward contemplation can have when reflected outwards with purpose.

A new website and domain to celebrate our new name and identity

As one of the most immediately visible expressions of AXIS’ new name and identity, we’re also proud to announce the launch of a new website and URL; now available at www.axisarchitecture.com, AXIS Architecture + Design’s redesigned website features an elegantly updated sophisticated style matching our modernized corporate identity, and prioritizes AXIS’ project imagery as the focus of visitors’ experiences.

We warmly welcome you to explore our new home at www.axisarchitecture.com – not only to experience AXIS’ new brand, but also to discover the passion and reflection that went into our new identity.

West Coast hotel designers and multi-family residential architects AXIS celebrate 2023’s accomplishments.

2023 was an impressive year for AXIS; not only did we celebrate our expansion into the Pacific Northwest with the opening of our Seattle office, but each of our hospitality design, multi-family residential design, and affordable housing design practices marked notable years of productivity and accomplishment.

As part of our first edition of our The Praxis newsletter in 2024, we took a moment to celebrate all we accomplished in 2023. Our sincere thanks to all of our clients and industry partners for making 2023 such a success.
